2008 Writing Round-Up

Dénoument Yukimura/Sanada + others, NC17 Sanada is a girl. And Yukimura happens to like girls.

The first fic of a genderswitch verse I mulled over for ages. 28 000 words

We'll Always Have Kanagawa Yukimura/Sanada + others, NC17 Sanada is a girl. Yukimura kinda likes it.

Really, really. Yukimura POV of the verse. He plays a lot of tennis and hangs out with Andy Roddick. 26 000 words.

Lesser of Two Evils Marui + Niou + Avril Lavigne, PG13ish Marui has a tough decision to make. More Marui + Niou "antifriendship" 869 words

Helping Hand Niou/Sanada, NC17 Sometimes, you need a friendly helping hand. 1635 words

Extracurricular Shitenhoji Gen, G In which Shitenhoji don't do much and wanders around Osaka.

Zaizen is racist, tsk tsk. 1883 words

Love is a Many Tentacled Thing Yukimura/Sanada, NC17 Sanada experiences a sea change in order to begin a relationship with Yukimura. Can he balance his secrets, the Rikkai Dai tennis club, and still achieve his goal? Written for [ profile] balls_it_up

So basically, Sanada is a sea monster and some people don't find the beauty in it. Their loss. 47 000 words

100% Woman Yanagi/Kirihara, NC17 Akaya shows up at Renji's one night, but something is up.

The fuck was I on when I wrote this? There's boobies. 2000 words

The Best Damn Thing Jackal/Marui, PG Marui doesn't like Jackal's girlfriend. 7600 words

Shibuya 109 Niou Kirihara, NC17 Eight months later, and Kirihara is more confused about Niou than ever.

The sequel that was never intended to be written ended up…being written. Sequel to Six Percent Doki Doki 32 000 words

Hatsukoi Sanada/Yukimura, NC17 First love, Sanada and Yukimura-style. 18 965 words

On Co-Ed Teams Marui + Genius + Co-Ed Tennis Teams, G Marui believes in co-ed teams. No one else, however, does. 788 words

Accidentally All Right Kirihara/Yanagi + others, NC17 Kirihara discovers something about Yanagi-senpai. Guess he's a chick, too.

Aw, the Kirihara/Yanagi side of the genderswitch verse. It's not all crotchless panties and oral sex, really. There's also tennis and angst and betrayal. Not that Kirihara lets it stop him! 24 000 words

Meow Mix Yukimura + Sanada + Pussy, PG Sanada is a fan of pussy. Yukimura is not. Get your minds out of the gutter. 1167 words

Frillbutt Panties Kirihara + Yukimura, PG Kirihara and frillbutt panties are gross. Tarundoru. 1036 words

Starbucks Troika Sanada + Yukimura + Yanagi + Starbucks, G. Self-explanatory. 1001 words

Stay Yagyuu-centric, R Niou disappears one day. Yagyuu isn't sure if he cares. Written for [ profile] rikkai_exchange

The way the fic was labelled for the fest really displeased me and gave away too much, imo, since the pairings were meant to be explored, not dumped out ahead of time for the reader. 8800 words

Flawless Sanada/Niou + Yagyuu, R Switching + Sanada = NOTP. Poor sod. Also involves gross school squat toilets 1106 words

Falter Atobe + Tezuka, Gish Tezuka's going to go pro. Atobe's left behind. 3000 words

Kizuna Bonds Baba-centric, Rish Baba and Masa share some kizuna bonds. And then some.

This makes sense to like, only myself and [ profile] doingfirst. Nothing floats my boat like writing offensive, scatological fic that makes fun of a) RPS shippers and b) Fufukawa Yuta. 4800 words

Tomodachi 2 Tomodachi Baba-centric, Rish Tomodachi mean everything to Baba and Masa.

Basically, a more offensive sequel to the above fic, this time involving Aiba Hiroki's scary red pants and a hot times party~! whatevs :P 4200 words

A General Nuisance Niou/Kirihara + Urayama, PGish Niou is being a general nuisance. 1796 words

Thus Spoke Atobe Atobe-centric, PGish Atobe may have found his soulmate. Or not.

Atobe is straight. Oshitari is a pest. The Greek is all googled. I love Inoue Masahiro's Atobe more than you. 4600 words

Rewind Forward (also on [ profile] reposte, update with final link will be later) Yagyuu/Niou, NC17 Niou, meet Yagyuu.

So basically, in addition to being longer than Diana Gabaldon books (no lie), this fic involves Niou. Hating megane dorks. And then deciding they might be okay after all. And then other shit happens and it's tough times being a teenager. 155 284 written in 2008 (366 000+ words total)

Push/Pull Yagyuu/Niou, NC17 Niou is a girl, and everything pushed to the edge.

The D1 side of the genderswitch verse—and originally, this was the first pairing whose story I came up, but the last to be written. It's not all about clown cars and dentist school. Too bad more people didn't check it out. 83 986 words

Mystery Fic

You all know what this is. 21 000 words

Total Number of Fics: 25, of which all but 2 were Tenipuri
Total 2008 Wordcount: 482 516, which is up from the 406 221 in 2007

…how do I even respond to that? It's time to start charging :|

Favourite: Dénoument.

The Best: Dénoument. It flowed so well during the writing process. And it was my favourite to write because it was so little effort when everything just fit.

Most underappreciated by the universe: Either Rewind Forward, or Push/Pull. It's not that people don't read them, it's obviously these fics are worth that little that 98% of readers can't be bothered to leave a comment. *grumble grumble*

Most fun to write: Either of the Tenimyu-verse pieces. I'm sick like that.

Sexiest: Dénoument. Tittyfucking.

"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you": Bulemic!Ouji in Tomodachi 2 Tomodachi. Well, basically, that entire fic.

Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Push/Pull Marui (;_____;) or Rewind Forward.

Hardest to do: Rewind Forward. It just never ended!!

Biggest disappointment: Push/Pull. Or the [ profile] rikkai_exchange fic, since a) wankery and b) the recipient didn’t like it so much and pooh-poohed all my original, fun ideas.

Biggest surprise: When [ profile] aiwritingfic commented that she felt We'll Always Have Kanagawa was better than Dénoument. …o.0

Alternatively, writing more Hyoutei after seeing the myu.

Most telling: RF. It told me that I can completely do that much, and better.

I regret, however, nothing!

Plans for 2009:
Truthfully? Nothing. Because I spend the equivalent time of a JOB on writing fic that I could instead be a) making money or b) something more productive with my time. It's tiring. If I commit myself to writing something at this point, and I fail to deliver, I'll be disappointing myself because I hate not following-through with things. Of course I will write—I enjoy it too much! I make a habit of doing it daily! I just am going to keep it to myself what exactly.

Besides, maybe I'll be inspired for something new, fic-wise, or of the original genre. Who knows?

I am rather blown away by your word count - certainly something to aspire to! And I think you have exactly the right attitude to not put added pressure on yourself with determinations for next year, too.

For me--and maybe you find it similar yourself--my favourite pieces to write are usually those I write for myself, without any expectations from others. :)

I'm not sure - recently I have been enjoying my origific a lot, so I think that's true for me now. In the past, I think I enjoyed writing for others more and I probably will again. Hyoutei exchange was just a bit of a nightmare for me, so that might be what resulted in the current selfish streak :D

I have no idea how much I wrote last year. Maybe I'll count it all why I'm sitting at work wishing I was someplace else. You, on the other hand, wrote an ASSLOAD. *applauds and throws confetti*

I have a ton of crap lined up for this year, no fanfic, and I'm sad because that will mean less time to game. ;__;

Rewind Forward was amazing, Al, and you know exactly how much I loved it. There's no doubt in my mind that you can create something similar in your own world and sell it. You've got what it takes.

Everyone else does the meme, but it takes so much effort to add things up the more fics there are. -____-

Working on the website fics this year?

I'm only missing, you know, a manuscript, an agent, and connections. Maybe some of those HP BNFs can share....

I'm going to go out on a limb and say yours took the longest. I feel that I could say that with no small amount of authority.

No, I'm getting serious and am writing a couple of novels. I'm ready to get off my lazy butt.

The manuscript and agent aren't so hard. Connections are a different story and, honestly, I wouldn't like seeing your name alongside Cassie Clare's. Because you're, yanno, a real writer.

The link searching = effort. And coding. *hates on coding*

What sorts of novels? Any particular genre?

There's also Maya. Oh, and that Heidi from TLC. They're all in the know together. I need to make friends with publishers, or something. Publishing interns, maybe.

Coding minions. And if we trusted other people to do it, we might even have some. :D

Drama, mainly. I'm not a genre writer and I think I do my best work when I take a more literary approach. I don't do action well, but I get into a character's head easily. If you're interested, we can yammer about our plans sometime. It's nice to have a support group.

I don't know who Heidi is. I do know that we don't need any more crappy, fanfic influenced young adult fantasy. -_-

10000 000 times yes!

(I posted about Heidi a week or so ago, in passing, though. Essentially, she wrote a fan's memoirs about HP fandom. And the national newspaper here that reviewed it absolutely roasted her book)

It just keeps getting published and it's almost always crap. The fact that Twilight was popular is proof enough that mediocrity (and less-than-mediocrity) is destined to be celebrated. -_- Unfortunately, just being published is not enough. I want to write something I can be proud of and that grown-ups will be able to understand and enjoy.

Oh, I must have missed it. I get so behind on lj sometimes that I can't catch up. A fan's memoirs. Fucking retard.

And d'oh I haven't said it yet but I absolutely LOVE your anti-friendship of Niou and Marui and your Christmas card confirmed me that once again. ♥ ♥ ♥

I should take on the print-out idea again.. there are many of your fics I'd like to re-read but at a more comfortable place than my computer-chair. (my back is killing me..)

I don't wish for you to stop writing fic, but I think you definitely should aim higher already, yes.

Round-ups are fun to read!

Eh. Posting fic online is just not rewarding enough if people lurk incessantly, especially given fic authors don't make any money doing it whatsoever.

Ooh, more Hyoutei! Also, I don't exactly want Rewind Forward to end, but I understand if your sanity must take precedence.

Anyway this made me think hard about my favorite fic of yours. I still can't decide so I have three!

1) Denouement
2) Shibuya 109
3) Love is a Many Tentacled Thing

I don't comment enough, I know. But I read everything.

That word count... 0.o That is impressive.

I love all of your fics! I try to comment on all of them and not lurk, but I don't know how great my little bits and pieces of flail are, lol. I have to admit, I am torn between Dénoument and what I am pretty positive is your 'Mystery Fic' as my favorite of yours for the year. Although have to admit the 'Baba Fics', as I've come to call them, made me laugh the most. They were a special kind of brilliant. Hats off to you on those.

I would feel sad to see less fic from you, but with your talent it would be a shame for you not to aim higher. You would be sure to succeed. ^.^

I know I have Reposte friended, but would you mind if I friend this journal? I like reading your opinion on things and I would love to read your thoughts on non-fandom things as well.

Great job just all around. Your talent and dedication to your writing leaves me in awe. Tenipuri (and Tenimyu!) Fandom is lucky to have you! &hearts

The Baba fics have a special place in my heart because they are so wrong, but so right. It pleases me to no end that you laughed at them! :D

Thank you so very much for all of the kind and thoughtful comments on reposte, and of course, if you would like to friend this journal too, then it would be my pleasure! (Although, of late, it's mostly been RL work I do...)

I thought you wouldn't do that post.
Definitely every year you outdo yourself and you make it wonderfully.

Ain't easy to choose wich one is the best, and as I'm behind on comments, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate all your writing.

There was lots of writing for fun (many inside jokes) and for the hell of it, defending your pairings for the naysayers.

Unfortunately it wasn't a good year for exchanges and fics like "Stay" and "Love is a many-tentacled thing" shouldn't received all that wank.

In Denouement verse, it's difficult to say which one is the best, every one stands alone by itself. And by many many motives I hold each one of them dearly.
If I were to elaborate, I would quote them all, but I really, really liked everything. I mean, you really made me like Yanakiri, and I'm a big Hiromi fan and I love Girl!Sanada so much.

Push/Pull is EPIC. I mean, I've read it like 3-4 times and I'm still speechless about it, my first comments are really lame and I don't know where to begin with the second half. Is epic like 100 Years of Solitude because after the twins, I'm lost with all the children, I need a chart and make timelines for all the Rikkai spawn; there are lots of references; I can tell there are many motives you might addressed not-so-secretly in your posts (I DO pay attention!!); many inner jokes and I'm going to admit this only now: the het is overwhelmingly (is this a word? O.o) HOT. And of course the fic is beyond that, there are issues addressed: what makes a woman, how Niou and Yagyuu's relationship can't be built on empty spaces (DUH, You need to TALK to each other!!!!!) because they were supposed to be friends after all but gender shit gets between. And more stuff that is pending to comment on the original post.
This is a mature work and is BRILLIANT.

I haven't finished RF, but I believe is the biggest accomplishment of the year because of Niou's portrait in all levels.

And of course, your mystery fic was awesome. ;D

Like last year, Allison, I can't wait to see what you might write this year. Don't forget to aim to please yourself first and the most important, no regrets. <3

(And this is my "OMG so busy at work!! T___T, I can't comment properly" input, imagine if I could have all the time of the world.)

Alas, this response won't be so epic...

Date: 2009-01-10 03:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
This year was crap for exchanges, don't you think? The reader apathy made it really tough--not just in Tenipuri, but many other fandoms. When there's a lot fewer exchanges in 2009, and people whine, it will serve them right!

Aw &hearts You really liked the YanaKiri didn't you? I'm as pleased as a pig in shit over that ;D

(Hiromi is pretty awesome. As is girl!Sanada. Sanada just works, on some odd level for me, as this horribly awkward girl with massive jugs, who Yukimura loves)

Push/Pull--thank you so much for all the kind words. It was kinda cathartic to write, and in some ways, feels a bit like my last fic for Tenipuri. We'll see.

RF...yeah, you know what I think about that :| If you do get a chance to finish, I do hope you enjoy it. It was rather a let down to see so many readers just trail off, but then, given the length, who can blame them. I'm just bitter about incessant lurkers, and what feels more and more like sharing fic without a purpose, and a useless waste of time coding and editing, etc.

So far, any writing plans involve no fic. And it's kind of enjoyable that way >:)

But as always, thank you for the motivation to help finish many many pieces, Maye. And for all the help with mystery things ;)

Definitely. Apathy will be readers' doom.

Roll over the mud, Allison. I really did. ^^;;

(My love for Girl!Sanada because I can relate with all this ackwardness of being a girl.)

It isn't much as time to grow up but pursuing new goals and interests, but still loving tennis boys (and their actors!)

I'll be thrilled to see where are you going.

You're wlecome. Push/pull and RF would be the fic I'd loved to edit, you know? They're that awesome and of course it must have been a terrible task the editing and coding. I would have loved to help in that one.

(But this sounds as you're retiring from fanfic writing, Oh noes!! ;___; But Andy/Hana adventures! And moar Hiromi!!
Now seriously, As long as you enjoy it, you can do anything. You'll tell us the story later. (Or not, of course!)

I meant to respond earlier with this, but I forgot and then the internet has been so-so...

Once upon a time, I had a list of when Niou's P/P babies were born because, yes, it was confusing. Except now I can't find it and I think I threw it out, but it had Niou's age at birth, and the approx time of year. He seemed to have a lot of summer babies.

It was sorta like (I tried to redo some):

[Baby] 1- 15 (b) Hiromi (August)
2- 18 (b) Hiroki (June)
3/4- 19 (b/g) Hiroshi/Masako
5- 20 (g) Haruka
6- 22 (b) Masa[taka]
7- 23 (b) Toru
8- 25 (g) Ayu
9- 27 (b) Yuichi
10- 29 (g) Erin
11- 31 (b) Ken

And then, unfortunately, I still can't find the list and I forget the other rough dates. Some of the ones in the middle, like 7-10, the dates and ages are rough and not that important.

*falls over*

Left some comments at reposte but wanted to say it here as well.
I was very much impressed by Denoument and We'll Always Have Kanagawa considering the warnings initially scared the hell out of me. Normally I run away from genderswitch. But you. You managed to make Girl!Sanada (yeah, boobs and tampons and babies and top!Yukimura on top )))) sweet and painful and adorable and so-so true. That takes a lot of skill.
I keep saying that I hate AUs but Yuki_Scorpio made me love her Yakuza! or Criminal!Rikkai, and Denoument and Kanagawa meant another shift of paradigm for me ))) Thank you!

All that not to say other fics were not loved. Hatsukoi is a beautiful love story, reads like canon, honestely. And many others. You have a lot of potential as a writer I think. and I hope you'd be able get the connections and some good luck to make a living out of it (if that's what you ultimately wish that is).

Thank you so much for giving those fics a chance! Because readers (like you) tend often to be scared away by warnings, I generally try to avoid them for mos fics, unless I want to offend general masses. Eheh.

While I have absolutely no desire ever to make my entire living out of writing (ugh), it would be nice to have some sort of appreciation in the form of an actual published, hard copy book, you know? Something physical to prove all this writing isn't for nothing.

Offending general masses is fun but indeed limits your readers circle )) On the other hand I was glad I was prepared for a major Sanada's bodymod, my unstable psyche might not have sustained it otherwise ;)))

I can totally see what you mean by having a proof all your effort is not for nothing. Sadly internet by nature a very abusive environment for creativity of any kind ((( some people will do that on purpose, some because they are scared of actual contact with other people to the extent of not being able to type a word of comment, some because they are just lazy/arrogant/forgetful. then there are freaks like myself who, when stuck on one pairing, can hardly read anything else (( that doesnt help fandom bloom either i guess. so yeah, I can understand the frustration under such circumsatnces. Especially so when your skills do deserve recognition.

But whatever you decide to work on in the future I really-really hope you'd not abandon the PoT/Tenimyu fandom altogether. These boys are so shiny! And a new manga is coming out soon! *tries hard to lure you back*
