Opinions on Said Fics

Favourite: It would be a lie to say anything but Rewind Forward. It is my love child. It is a pleasure to write it, although just as often it's a lot a lot of hard work and thinking about things often and clack-clacking away at my computer for an hour or so almost every day. It frustrates me, it excites me. It's such a mix of feelings I have for it, but it is my favourite, yes.

The Best: Maybe the "something else" one. I went out and had an Official Beta for that one and help from several people. So, in terms of polish, it received the most, which probably makes it the best in that regards.

Most underappreciated by the universe: Same as last year, Rewind Forward. Probably a combination of losing readers (for whatever their own personal reasons) and it being locked- I'd work on it really hard for a period of time and mention and mention it try to get people excited, then I'd post and….nothing. Like…I could hear the crickets chirping. Or, people would be all "yeah I love it I read it!!" and say nothing still. Or just say nothing. And it hurt, often, and I'd lose motivation. But the fact I posted large chunks at a time backfired as well- I'd always been of the assumption people love sitting down with large chunks more than constant snippets. That, and when I did constant snippets with Quicken to Silver people likewise lost interest. Which doesn't help me pinpoint anything. I might try a different posting style for it in 2008, but I'm not sure at the present what precise direction that will be.

Most fun to write: The Great Rikkai Camping Adventure. Crack, and yet…more crack. With sex. And holes. And YAGYUU TAKING A MORNING DUMP! Basically, everything you didn't want to know about what I really want to write. I love writing fics with cracked out antics. And combine that with a Familymart, allusions to personal experience of "hiking" in Japan (Ria would claim we did, I'd claim it was a "walk"), with Sanada and poison ivy?

You all love the crack, deep down. Don't deny it. And so do I. Nothing in life pleases me more than laughing until my sides hurt and I can't breathe. So yeah, this fic was fun to write. It was very nearly the "Great Rikkai Genderswitch Beach Afternoon", too btw…>:P

Sexiest: Turning the Devious Into the Direct

To which I say, SCREW YOU HATERS!!

To this day, even thinking about Sanada and Niou in a solitary school stairwell with bento boxes on their laps and sticky BBQ ribs in their hands makes me melt inside at the implications of quiet je ne sais quois emotions passing between the two of them unsaid. Understated sexy. That makes me wibble inside.

"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you": Maybe The Great Rikkai Camping Adventure, although to be honest, that's more of my "true" style- potty humour, tons of bad jokes, Sanadabuse and did I mention potty humour and toilet references? It's not that I'd consider it wrong, just that…a lot of bathroom functions mentioned in any sort of writing usually don't go over well, so I [used to] avoid them. This fic…sorta proved to myself I can get away with them sometimes. Be very afraid, dear readers, the truth has emerged…

Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Six Percent Doki Doki. The fact I made Yagyuu the bad guy and somehow almost managed to write a love triangle in the process? The fact I managed to make Niou/Kirihara work for myself, but also apparently for some others too? The fact I managed to write homophobia and an ostracized Niou and include bits of Tokyo and Japan from my visit there? I guess my whole experience of visiting in the summer gave me new ideas and I shifted my own perceptions- in some ways- of what I can do in fic.

Hardest to do: Finishing Quicken to Silver. I didn't want to leave it any more, but sometimes, even trying to sit down and write it felt like pulling teeth. I wrote myself into a tennis corner the previous year- too much tennis, too many things going on and it was just so much. Too much probably. So that was hard, but I had to, needed to, wanted to finish it. And I did.

Biggest disappointment: Different Kind of Victory, hands down. Very few noticed this, very few seemed to care. I was disappointed with that, given Chitose/Tachibana is supposedly a pairing a lot of people like. I was also disappointed with myself being unable to write smut of any form into the fic- I tried and tried and it never worked and the fic ended without it. Alas.

Biggest surprise: Having Love Story flamed by haters. I was immensely hurt by that and swore off writing Sanada/Yukimura for a long time afterwards. For whatever reason, some readers were incapable of reading the warnings and understanding the sort of humour I had in the fic and that surprised me: the violent reactions against it and their equally acerbic words.

Most telling: A cross between parts of Six Percent, Rewind Forward and "something else"- dealing with themes of ostracization, isolation and unappreciation, themes that I've related to on some level this past year. A lot of times, when I dig for emotion in characters, I have to dig into myself in the process, so even though they may not be my own, per se, I feel they reflect me nonetheless. And as a writer, it's somehow…very exposing to share things like that with others because I'm sharing an intimate part of myself (so to speak, although that sounds really bad and dumb). Writing hurt, anger, sadness, loneliness is very telling and very emotionally draining, and yet…I do it anyways because I don't want to gloss over things and make them all kira kira happy. I want to write things as they are, and that isn't always something happy and good. As much as I enjoy writing the happy and good, you often need sadness and desperation and gut-wrenching hurt to get there.

Plans for 2008:

1. To finish Rewind Forward. The most likely date of completion is October 2008, but I shall gambatte and work hard!

2. To write my [livejournal.com profile] balls_it_up fic, which will be the most deliciously awful and bad fic ever. Be prepared to hate me. And yet, god the idea is so simple and makes so so much sense.

3. To write some more Shitenhoji fic, maybe Kenya/Zaizen or the Idiot Couple.

4. To write awful genderswitch. Yes, [livejournal.com profile] pixxers, maybe that one. Or the one where Kirihara is Number One! Or the one where Niou has the baby in the toilet and Yagyuu wants to dispose of it in the garbage.

5. To challenge myself with new pairings.

6. To challenge myself with other fandoms. But what, I don't know. Maybe I'll be inspired by jdramas or books or something I don't even know yet. ^-^

7. To write the original piece this summer.

8. To improve my writing. To do my best and never be satisfied with mediocrity.

9. To write that fic where Yukimura and Sanada love each other from that first day of junior high when their eyes meet on the bus. I shall call it "Hatsukoi" and it will be deliciously melodramatic. And long.

10. To write Jackal/Marui. Hardcore Jackal/Marui. The one with Avril Lavigne.

11. To write Oishi/Kaidoh. And it'll be fucking awesome, too.

I o_O in your general direction. Do you generally hit 50,000 a month? I usually settle around the 6,000 mark. XD; In any case, you quadrupled my yearly word count, so you're not allowed to pull sad faces. ;)

But you do have a life!! ;) That's what makes this even more incredible!

Hm, I don't know. Ideally I'd like to hit 50k a month, but of the 3 months I've tried to tally wordcounts, I only hit it once. I generally prefer daily goals of at least 1000 to keep it simpler.

6000/month is still more than most people do!

DAMN WOMAN, THAT'S A LOT. I'm certainly impressed. :) If I had to favorites out of everything that I did read of yours (I didn't read everything, I'll be honest)...

Six Percent Doki Doki, Sleepover no Oujisama, Weekend Break, The Great Rikkai Camping Adventure and Appropriation. I also liked the silly Halloween drabbles. :D

Also, yes, you should write hardcore Jackal/Marui.

I am convinced the wordcount is a sign I need to get out more. Or, alternatively, give up academia and become funemployed a "writer" ;D

Holy crap. That is one long list of fics.*____* When I finish this drawing, I will most definitely go back and re-read. I'm pretty sure there are a couple I might've missed.

And about the whole Love Story thing, I remember reading about the retard on Pixxer's journal and thinking, "Jesus Christ. Just because you are a complete and utter dipshit doesn't mean you can go wanking on humor you clearly don't understand." Oh how I love the internet...

But with that aside, I am awed and amazed by the sheer amount and quality of fics you have produced this year.♥♥♥!!! My personal favs will always be all of the Rikkai related ones. XD Oh I'm totally not biased. ♥ (Especially Six Percent Doki Doki, The Great Rikkai Camping Adventure, Redirected, and Rewind Forward, which totally does without saying.)♥

I bow down to your writing prowess. 2008 looks like a very eventful and interesting year~ I look forward to it! 8D

Hee! Thanks, Bethany! My favs are also the Rikkai fics, but then...I mostly wrote Rikkai. I'd like to branch out a bit more in 2008 and be a little more...varied. ^-^

Oooh. I hope you write Idiot Pair and the Jackal/Marui and the Oishi/Kaidoh.

I am seriously impressed with the amount and quality of your writing. I'm going to have to keep this post open in a tab and go back to read all the stories I missed of yours. And I've completely failed at reading more Rewind Forward, due to the holidays and smex, but I plan to start doing it again tomorrow.

I loved your fic this year, and I'm sorry if I did not comment enough, but I think the key to enjoy writing fic is to write what you want, not to an audience, and think of comments as icing on the cake, but the big thing is doing it for yourself, me, I like being challenged as a reader, and you always give that in spades.

Good luck in 2008

Date: 2008-01-01 02:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] reposoir.livejournal.com
That's a really good idea, Karadin. To write more for myself than others- to be honest, that hasn't occurred to me to do that in a long time. Thank you so much! I hope to have fics even more challenging for this coming year and I hope you'll enjoy them too! ^-^

But..but...but... they already met in Elementary School! :O

Anyway. Kudos to you. For everything.
RF is also your big winner, I think, but 6% was the sneaky little follow-up.

Ah... I really have to reread some *___*

Yukimura doesn't pay Sanada much attention in elementary, because they don't go to the same school and they only meet up during the summer for the elementary school tennis circuit club thingy that Tezuka goes to too. And Sanada's a pooface with a dumb hat and bad form, in Yukimura's opinion. But they really meet on the bus to junior high...but I would explain all that, you see.

6% was pretty cool, I admit. If only for the Ameba studio cameo...;D

I know I'm repeating myself but I really, really do love RF and will stick to it until you finish it. ♥
About how to post it the best.. hm.. maybe something like.. every week a new part? or two. or more. It's really hard to decide because I think it's easier to write a comment when it's less but to be able to read a lot new of it is also great..

I really look forward to your 2008 writing. ♥ Keep on going, you do have people who love you and what you do. :D

AND HAPPY NEW YEAR !

I don't write enough for once a week, Fuhjin. And probably not even enough for once every two weeks, because I'd be spending too much time editing and coding and not writing (and I HATE coding with a passion. Takes me hours, literally). I prefer to...not update as much because I like to have a surplus of fic available when I do update because, well, I hate the unfinished feeling of "WIPs"...:/

I'm thinking of alternate ways of updating- maybe once a month, two sections? I just don't know. I used to like updating on certain special days, but either a) no one cared or b) no one noticed, so that was shooting myself in the foot. Hm.

I'll try to keep up the work~! This week will be filled with fucked up fic goodness. Eheheheh. >:)

Happy 2008 to you too!

An impressive year, Allison!
I should make better use of my brain, because I remember everything, or I relate events with your fics.

Yes, RF is your baby and it's such a fantastic story because of all the lines you're handling there.

"The Great Rikkai Adventure" indeed shows the lots of fun it was writing it, even when Sanada suffers.

I did liked lots "Different kind of victory". I don't know why, but Fudoumine is a team to going back, even when it doesn't receive much fandom love. And Chitose... hot damn.

You can be proud of "Turn the devious into direct", you settled things for the SananNiou... (is not that I hate it, just doesn't float my boat much) but I believe that "Six percent doki-doki" is the most accomplished, because the Niou love is astounding, his development as a character and the way you handled Akaya, also scenery-wise... wow. That would be a second favorite on the "serious" writing part, because all the drabbling is enjoyable.

Too bad that you feel underapprecciated at times and that you've been flamed on the way. I don't know what would help to know what is the right formula for writing or to make it reflect better in your comments, because I believe people DO read you. I still think people is just shy. I started commenting actively in the second part of RF, for example.

For this year, I foresee improvement, Allison, your work is continuosly evolving, and it will be excellent as long as you write what you want to write.

And if you write "Hatsukoi" deliciously long, we don't mind. Because my first fic of yours was a Sanayuki one, and I'll always like the way you write it. XD

Err, sorry for the long rambling and congratulations for this year's writing! :D

Aw, thank you so much, Maye! I'm glad you enjoyed a bunch of these fics this past year! I hope there will be just as much in 2008 to share with others!

Hatsukoi would be filled with cheesy long, puppy dog eyes at each other and blushing and awkardness. And dates at crepe cafes in Harajuku, I think. ;D

Eheheheh. Oh Becca- I have grand plans to go to Japan in the summer to do a language course and while there write an original piece (which I have a title for already!)- though...I think it would be less historical and mostly...contemporary...possibly an attempt at a "coming of age" type thing, only...I don't know what a coming of age story is. *fails*

I might try a different posting style for it in 2008, but I'm not sure at the present what precise direction that will be.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NO! NO! NO! Please don't do anything different if it means I don't get my Rewind Forward fix! Do you realize that this is the first and probably the only time I've been so addicted to a fic that I check your journal specially EVERY FEW DAYS to see if it's been updated? Even on weeks where I don't even check my flist? If people aren't reading this fic, I'm just going to have to carry a banner for it, or something, saying "If you're not reading this, you're not reading!" I'm trying to be very, very good and not ask you when there's going to be an update because, hi, that is the most annoying thing in the world and I don't want to annoy, just salivate while I wait and pounce like a poison spider on the next big chunk and stay up reading until the wee hours and suffer the next day at work as I try and digest it all, then re-read it, hoping against hope that you'll have another segment posted soon. Yeah, that was totally a run-on, but that's the kind of adrenalyn this story gives me so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't change anything and *begs* post just like you have been because I don't think I can wait until October. October *wibbles*

Oh my Hatsukoi idea- everyone, including you, seems to want it! even though it's a vague idea! Suppose this means I should think more about it, eh? ;D

406 221 words

*sputters* Oh, screw you. You do realise that's about two fantasy doorstep novels right there, yes?

I have no idea how much I wrote this year. Mostly because I failed at fic, overall, and spent a while waffling with original stuff. Only the bloody book shoved it into a respectful count of something over 50,000 words. :/

Yeah, or three historical romance novels. -_____-

If only I wrote nonfic, Ria, then I might have a hope in a million of publishing. Alas.

That one fic was pretty long of yours...besides, you've been working. That has to count for something!

Please don't mention the publishing stats. They give me nightmares. All of the agent blogs I follow listed their queries/partials/fulls/clients taken on stats and they almost made me cry. D:

LOL. Yeah, it paid my rent and gave me books, but not much else. ;)

I'd work on it really hard for a period of time and mention and mention it try to get people excited, then I'd post and….nothing. Like…I could hear the crickets chirping. Or, people would be all "yeah I love it I read it!!" and say nothing still. Or just say nothing. And it hurt, often, and I'd lose motivation.

I wonder myself what is it with people these days...(sometimes including myself) I used to write fics too, but I've left it for a long time- I'm used to getting little to no comments...a few people I manage to meet face to face say that they like my fic, and later told me online that they're too shy to comment. I don't know what to think of that. It could be that everyone's busy with real life, or that maybe my stuff sucks, but after a while, I'm also beginning to feel that this is like, kind of $$ *frowns*...*insert whatever adjective you think of here*

It really does hurt when you know there's actually people watching- (according to the counter I've put up at my site) -but just wouldn't speak up for whatever reason. I'd feel down, yes, though I don't feel that I should stop just because they chose to be silent. I should look up to you, Allison- *sorry that I called your name so suddenly. XD)...you're like one the most productive author I've seen. Not just quantity, but quality, too. *hearts*

I'm really looking forward to what this year could bring :D Happy New Year!

I've thought of using invisible counters before, Mango. And I may try one in the new year, just for kicks. But yeah...like you, I've heard the "I'm too shy" before and...yeah. *frowns with you*

Thank you so much! I hope in 2008 to produce some good things that you'll enjoy too! ^-^

9. To write that fic where Yukimura and Sanada love each other from that first day of junior high when their eyes meet on the bus. I shall call it "Hatsukoi" and it will be deliciously melodramatic. And long.

:D yeah, don't hesitate

Were I to write it, it wouldn't be until later in the year because I have lots to work on for the moment...;P

hello, :3

i've stumbled into your journal while looking for nice Rikkai D1 fics (because the world is sadly deprived of good fics outside of lj...) and, altho i have not commented on every one of your work that i've read so far, i thought, i'd just comment in one go here...

YOU ARE ONE AWESOME WRITER. *___* the characters feel sooooo alive when i've reading them... i always find myself thinking 'okay, this is the last i'll read for tonight, then i'll sleep' but no~ your stuff is soooo engrossing it keeps me reading through the wee hours of morning. (it's a good thing! i swear! xD) i think i've friended your fic account and quite possibly memoried a couple of your works...

anyway, i'll stop rambling and just leave with a 'keep writing!' i really like your Rikkai. <3 (esp your D1~)

ps.
you posted that you do not friend anyone who's just here for fics... i had clicked on the "Rewind Forward" and found it to be locked... didn't want to bother you, but i do want to read it... ^^; (i hope you don't mind...or is there a place where i can read it without my troubling you with friending me just because of a fic? <--i didnt want to be rude and suddenly friend you without warning...)

Aw, thank you! I had no idea you read my fics that voraciously, let alone enjoyed them so much! I'm flattered by your enthusiasm!

That said, I don't friend people back if they're just here to read fics, as all the fics I'm sharing are available on [livejournal.com profile] reposte. This is my personal LJ. Rewind Forward is not public yet anywhere, but it will be when I finish it (and it will be posted to [livejournal.com profile] reposte when that happens :).
